Adaptive ANC and the new QN3 processor
The WH-1000XM6 moves to Sony's QN3 noise-cancelling processor and adds more granular adaptive ANC, which automatically adjusts cancellation strength to your environment and to fit quality detected via the built-in mics. For a US buyer comparing the XM6 to last year's XM5, the biggest day-to-day win is the silence on planes and in open-plan offices, and the slightly better behaviour on windy commutes. If you already own the XM5 and mostly listen indoors, the upgrade is hard to justify; if you commute or fly often, the XM6 is the meaningful jump.
